Problemet er at hver gang der kommer en ny kernel update
får du installeret en ny kerne + grub-entry.
De gamle afinstalleres ikke automatisk.

Så du afinstallerer de ekstra kerner via f.eks. synaptic pakkemanageren
og så forsvinder de fra grub menu.

Eksempel:
jeg har en gammel 
  "Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.17-11-386" med /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-11-386"
i grub menu.

Jeg søger i synpatic efter versionen: "2.6.17-11-386"

og  afinstallerer den/de pakker der passer sammen ved at markere 
"linux-image-2.6.17-11-386" til "fuldstendig fjernelse"
Du kan også afinstallere de gamle versioner af linux-headers hvis
de dukker op i listen.
Pas på ikke at afinstallere den aktuelle kerne mv. som du anvender!
