Normalt vil dialog skrive ud på stderr. Kan du ikke bare snuppe det 
der?

PASSW=`/usr/local/bin/dialog --passwordbox "Oracle password ?" 0 0 2>&1`

Man kan også gøre sån:
#! /bin/sh
dialog --inputbox "Dit navn" 0 0 "Tyge Brahe" 2>/tmp/svar
read NAVN </tmp/svar
echo "Dit navn er: $NAVN"

Jeg kan ikke lige huske hvor jeg blev inspireret af ovenstående, men 
det kunne være Slackware...
