Skal Danmark have en pris? EU udlover pris for bedste fremskridt inden for e-forvaltning! eEurope Awards for Innovation in eGovernment http://europa.eu.int/information_society/eeurope/egovconf/documents/concludi ng_speech_for_commissioner_liikanen.doc Concluding speech for Commissioner Liikanen, eGovernment conference 30.11 (at 12.45hrs est.) eEurope Awards for Innovation in eGovernment The response of public administrations to the informal "Call for Applications" to this conference was impressive. Based on this experience and along the lines of the eGovernment Label awarded at this conference, the Commission will launch a competition of annual eEurope Awards for Innovation in eGovernment". Through its annual competition, the award recognises innovative initiatives and by offering the recognition provides concrete evidence that government can work to improve the quality of life for citizens and that it deserves greater public trust. By highlighting exemplary models of government's innovative performance, the Award serves as a catalyst for a continued progress in addressing the EU most pressing public concerns and for the betterment of society as a whole. The context for making these awards is the eEurope Action Plan. The purpose is to stimulate the improvements in Societal Applications provided by administrations in the public sector. Awarded applications should demonstrate innovation, and profound improvements in services offered to the public. The award will address eGovernment, healthcare, transport and other areas of the Public Administration, such as education and the environment. Each year the awards will target specific policy areas and it will cover all government departments at all levels (central, federal, local and territorial), within the EU Member States and the Accession Countries. To be eligible, a societal application must involve a fresh approach to a problem of significant concern to a sector of EU citizens. In line with the spirit of this eGovernment conference, the Awards are intended to draw attention to exemplary practices in government and to provide a platform for public-sector innovators behind these practices to disseminate their achievements. Finally, I like to thank all of you for your participation and for the contribution to the success of this conference and invite who of you did not, to visit the exhibition, an impressive manifestation of the vitality of the Public Sector, and I wish you the best of success in eGovernment implementation.
